VIDEO: Skater boy Jordan vies for national award
Teenager Jordan Ward is proving he has what it takes to become the nation’s next skating sensation.
For the Blackpool teenager is bidding to turn pro in in-line skating, after regularly winning competitions across the country and wowing spectators of the sport he has loved since he was just three years old. Now he is hoping the people of Blackpool will help him secure the title of Best Skater in England. Jordan, 15, has been shortlisted for the Fruit Shoot Skills Awards, in association with Nickelodeon, which recognise talented sporting youngsters across the UK. He said: “I think It’s amazing. I am really happy. It would be an honour to win this award, and I would use it to help teach other children how to get involved in this sport and get fit and healthy.”
Jordan, of Silverwood Avenue, South Shore, said he fell in love with skating when he first tried it, and has been competing since he was six. He has received sponsorship from That Rolling Brand. The Higfield Humanities College pupil added: “I am down at the skate park most days that I can.
“When I go into spins and flips I get a real rush that I wouldn't get anywhere else. “It’s definitely my ambition to compete in the pros leagues and travel around the world with it.” Jordan’s proud father, Scott, said: “Skating is something we encouraged for Jordan from a young age and it’s really paid off.
“Extreme sports are very much brushed under the carpet in the UK compared with America, so it’s pleasing to see the Fruit Shoot awards helping to promote them. “Maybe in-line skating could become an Olympic sport one day?” Jordan will attend a televised ceremony at the O2 arena next month, when the winner will be announced.
