Mersey gymnasts jump for joy as national competition nears
TWO young Merseyside gymnasts inspired by the Olympics were limbering up in readiness for a major competition.
Best pals Samuel Ramos and Jamie Canning from the City of Liverpool Gymnastic Club, whose members include Olympian Beth Tweddle, already stand out from the crowd.
The nine-year-olds have gone from strength to strength since they started training at the club a year ago.
Jay Scouler, head trampoline coach, said: “It’s a really exciting time for gymnastics in Liverpool, both in our Elite Programmes of Trampoline and Woman’s Artistic, as we’re continuing to build upon the successes of Liverpool’s Olympic medallist Beth Tweddle and all the other gymnasts who have come out of Park Road in recent years.
“Samuel came from a sport called Tumbling Gymnastics while Jamie came through the Trampoline Academy Sessions. The boys are already real success stories having qualified in all four of their regional grades the first time round.”
Samuel, from Litherland, and Jamie, from Aintree, have their first national level competition in trampoline gymnastics, which takes place in Hull later this month.
They would then go on to compete in the British Championships, held at The NEC, Birmingham in July.
Samuel Ramos, who is a pupil of [...] primary school, in Crosby, won a Nickelodeon Skills Award for his gymnastics last summer.
He was paired with Jamie, who attends [...] College in Aigburth, to do synchronised trampoline and perform gymnastic moves in unison.
Jamie said: “I love being a gymnast and doing trampoline gymnastics. I really want to do well at the competition in Hull and Birmingham.”
Samuel said “I always try to do my best in training and I’m so happy to be doing bigger competitions with my team mate Jamie.”
