Awards The ICC wins big at the 2013 BOBS
Birmingham’s International Convention Centre (ICC) has been awarded ‘Best Arts & Entertainment Venue’ at this year’s Best of Broad Street Awards.
Known locally as the BOBS, the awards are voted for by local businesses and residents and recognise the best venues and venue teams in the city. Broad Street is well-known for its diverse and attractive offering; from high end restaurants to popular pubs and clubs, as well as some of the city’s best cultural venues.
This year, the ICC has picked up ‘Best Arts & Entertainment Venue’ after an increase in non-conference business.
Paul Rutherford, General Manager at the ICC, said: “To receive such recognition from the people who live and work in Birmingham is a great honour for the ICC. Although the ICC is a conference centre, we have seen an increase in the number of entertainment events taking place at the venue. Last year we hosted the Britain’s Got Talent Auditions, who are returning next month, as well as the Nickelodeon Skillies Awards and the theatre production of the Snowman. This March we will be staging the production of The Little Shop of Horrors, which will take place in our Hall 1 over four days accommodating 1,500 seats at a time.
“Our Christmas parties offer, in partnership with JD Parties, has also proved extremely successful; we saw an increase of 1,000 covers in 2012 compared to 2011, and we are expecting the numbers to further rise this year. The flexibility of our building means we can adapt any space to meet the needs of the event, whether it is a large scale conference or a theatre production. It is encouraging to see that the diversity of what we do has been recognised by the people of Birmingham.”
The venue hosts around 400 events and welcomes 300,000 delegates every year. From international and high profile events like the recent Conservative Party Conference, to meetings and launches, the venue can accommodate a whole host of events.
The ICC’s sister venue, the NIA, also picked up ‘Best Overall Venue’ – which was won by the ICC in 2012 – at this year’s ceremony.
