Nick moves into original mobile IPAlso, from Kidscreen's iKids column:
Nickelodeon has launched its first original IP for mobile, an arcade-style action game for iOS devices called Scribble Hero.
The game, which is available to download now, sees players take on an army of scribbles and doodles in a quest to save the main character Sketch’s friend, called Dot. The 50-level title is priced US$0.99 in the US and also lets users pay real money for additional in-app content, although this can be locked by adjusting the device’s settings.
Nickelodeon’s push into original mobile games, not based on existing Nickelodeon programme IP, follows the huge success of a clutch of kids brands that have grown up in the app space.
These include Angry Birds, which is being turned into a TV show by its creator Rovio, and Cut the Rope, which is headed down the same route via a tie-up between creator ZeptoLab and Sony Pictures Television.
It also signals a new approach to content creation by traditional TV companies. At MipJunior in October, Nick rival Cartoon Network signalled its intention to also develop more children’s content away from the TV screen.
