Hulu creates ad-free kids' section
Hulu has launched a dedicated ad-free children's section as part of its Hulu Plus subscription offering.
The new section will make content from the likes of Nickelodeon, PBS and Lionsgate easier to access and navigate, and will begin with around 43 shows, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Caillou and Thomas & Friends.
These will be divided into categories such as Dino Time, for dinosaur-related content including series like Barney, and Cartoon Favourites, which will feature shows like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
At the same time, an update to Hulu on the PlayStation 3 will make Hulu Kids available on the games platform.
Previously Hulu had sub-genre categories on its main service including animation, family and kids – rather than a single custom-designed kids’ area. The company extended its agreement with Viacom to include Nickelodeon content last month.
The move comes after Netflix rolled out its Just For Kids section in August 2011, before launching it on the Xbox 360 this August.
