SYDNEY, 11 December, 2012 - Nickelodeon Australia and Tennis Australia today announced an exciting new partnership that will see Nickelodeon, the world’s leading kids’ entertainment company, produce the entertainment for the next annual Kids Tennis Day in 2013. This year’s event will feature The Rod Laver Arena Spectacular and is set to be the greatest day of tennis and kids' entertainment ever seen at Melbourne Park. Gates open from 8.30am, with activities running from 9.00am -1.00pm
on 12 January as part of Australian Open 2013.


Already a highly-anticipated family event for tennis fans around the country, Kids Tennis Day was established in 2011 in association with Tennis Australia's MLC Tennis Hot Shots program for kids. This year’s event attracted an impressive crowd of more than 8000 people. In 2013, Nickelodeon will play a driving role in designing and promoting Kids Tennis Day activities to its target audience nationwide, and will bring to the table its expertise in producing large-scale entertainment events for kids.

To headline the biggest ever Kids Tennis Day, some of Nickelodeon's best loved characters, such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer, will share the arena with some of the world’s best tennis players. Also in the mix will be Nickelodeon's trademark green slime – relished by kids at events such as the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards and SlimeFest – which will entertain families in the Slime Time Live stage show.

The Goonies never say die, and here's proof. More than 27 years after the fan favorite film was released, two of its stars are back together, this time on TV.

Corey Feldman recently joined Sean Astin in the sound booth at the Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, Calif., where the two recorded voiceovers for a Season 2 episode of Nickelodeon's hit Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Astin plays Raphael, one of the pizza-loving ninjutsu-trained reptiles on the animated revival. Feldman's character remains shrouded in secrecy, although it's safe to say that he rocks Raphael's world. According to Feldman, his Ninja Turtles collaboration with Astin marks one of the few times any of The Goonies kids have shared screen time since the 1985 movie. "The coolest part is it's two Goonies working together again after all these years," Feldman says. "Which is crazy, because we're all such good friends."

Feldman (who played the delinquent Mouth in The Goonies) and Astin (the movie's young protagonist, Mikey) keep in close contact — which made things a little awkward when both tried out for the Raphael role. "If it was anyone else I would have taken it harder, but I love Sean," says Feldman, who was smoking at the time of his audition, sporting a voice that was ultimately deemed too raspy for the job.

Nonetheless, executive producer Ciro Nieli promised to find another role for Feldman, who had voiced Donatello in two of the Ninja Turtles movies. "His role is a perfect complement to his relationship with Sean," says Nieli. "It couldn't be any better."

Feldman is expected to return for multiple episodes. At the first voice-over session with Feldman and Astin, the actors are relaxed and playful with each other. Feldman takes iPhone pics of Astin, sitting in the booth next to him, while Astin admits he has to look away while Feldman voices his role. "I didn't think I'd get to see anybody, it would be a quick visit, do a few lines and that's it," says Feldman.

But, Astin notes, "Nickelodeon is very aware of the promotability of name actors in their shows. They get it. They care about this franchise a lot." Nickelodeon ordered 26 episodes of Season One, which premiered in September, and has already picked up a second season.

Besides Astin, the show also features the voices of Jason Biggs (American Pie), Greg Cipes (Teen Titans) and Rob Paulsen (Planet Sheen). Small world time: Feldman worked with Cipes on the Toon Disney series Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go, which was created by Nieli.

Both Feldman and Astin say they're still asked about a Goonies sequel more than almost anything else on their robust resumes. Ideas that have been kicked around in the past include a second movie featuring the old cast, an animated reboot, and even a Goonies Broadway musical. But nothing will happen until producers Steven Spielberg and Richard Donner give their blessing.

"It will happen," Astin says. "I'm 1000 percent certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it."

Feldman's not quite as certain. "Oh my God," he says. "I am betting no child on this matter."
The 1985 movie "The Goonies" tells the tale of a group of children who embark on a wild adventure after finding a pirate treasure map.

Feldman famous for 80s childhood roles

Undoubtedly one of the most famous child actors of the 80s and 90s, Corey Feldman has enjoyed a career spanning over 35 years, having starred in more than 80 films, 100 commercials, and 50 television shows. Feldman is known for starring in cult classics such as Goonies, Stand by Me, The Lost Boys, Friday the 13th, Gremlins and License to Drive, to name just a few.

The actor will be in Niagara Falls June 8 and 9 when the third annual Niagara Falls Comic Con rolls into the Scotiabank Convention Centre.

Feldman is still going strong with a new solo album, featuring his first ever-music video, the launch of his internet series, a new film coming to theaters called “The M Word”, his autobiography “Coreography”, to be released this November and his new play “White Lies”, which will open in the UK.

Recently, Feldman returned to his former beloved franchises by narrating the Friday the 13th doc “Memories of Crystal Lake”, and by joining the cast of the new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” cartoon series on Nickelodeon with former Goonies co-star Sean Astin.

“Corey is still a busy working actor in Hollywood, so we’re grateful that he is taking the time our of his schedule to appear at Niagara Falls Comic Con to meet and greet with fans. Nickelodeon UK May Be Planning To Premiere A Brand New Show In February 2013!

Nickelodeon UK's "What's On" online schedule section on the official Nickelodeon UK and Ireland website, Nick.co.uk, is currently displaying an empty time slot for weekdays at 6.30pm on Nickelodeon UK and Ireland and Nickelodeon HD UK from Monday 11th February 2013, which could indicate that Nickelodeon UK is planning to premiere a brand new show or brand new episodes of a series that isn't regularly shown on Nickelodeon UK on Nick UK & Eire/HD in February 2013!

Although not confirmed by Nickelodeon UK, it is rumored that the weekday 6.30pm time slot could feature the premiere of Nickelodeon's brand new live-action comedy show "How to Rock", the launch of the brand new original animated Nickelodeon series "The Legend of Korra", or the debut of season three of Nickelodeon's hit suspense-filled mystery drama series "House Of Anubis".

Nickelodeon's brand new live-action comedy show "How to Rock" follows the journey of Kacey Simon (Cymphonique Miller), a once perfect "mean girl" who falls out of favor with the "in-crowd" after she has to get glasses and braces, but discovers that hanging with a new group of friends may not be as bad as it first seemed. Season 1 of "How To Rock" will follow Kacey as she navigates through high school social circles, real and fake friendships and learning how to rock her "real" self.

"The Legend of Korra" takes place 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and follows the next Avatar after Aang – a girl named Korra (Janet Varney) who is from the Southern Water Tribe. With three of the four elements under her belt (Earth, Water and Fire), Korra seeks to master Air. Her quest leads her to Republic City, the modern “Avatar” world that is a virtual melting pot where benders and non-benders from all nations live and thrive. Korra quickly discovers that the metropolis is plagued by crime as well as a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to rip the city apart. Under the tutelage of Aang’s son, Tenzin (J.K. Simmons), Korra begins her airbending training while dealing with the dangers at large.

In "House of Anubis" season three, titled "House of Anubis: The Reawakening" the Sibuna gang returns to Anubis House with new leader Eddie (Burkely Duffield) as the Osirian. It's up to the Sibunas to untangle the mysteries and stop the adults from unleashing an evil so great it will destroy the world and everyone in it. The new season will feature returning favorite characters and also introduce new faces including KT (Alexandra Shipp), a sunny and tenacious American girl who becomes a vital part of the Sibuna gang, and Willow (Louisa Connelly-Burnham), a bright and quirky student from another boarding house. "House of Anubis season three has new mysteries to solve, new characters, new crushes, and storylines that will both shock and delight fans," said Marjorie Cohn, President, Content Development, Nickelodeon. "The drama and suspense will leave viewers on The Edge of their seats eager to find out what will happen next."

The official Nickelodeon North America (Nickelodeon USA) website, Nick.com, have a selection of exclusive printables featuring characters from popular Nickelodeon shows to celebrate the Nickelodeon holiday season. Printables include Nickelodeon Christmas cards and Nickelodeon Christmas present gift tags featuring the casts of "Big Time Rush", "Victorious", and "iCarly", and a Nickelodeon orange snowflake (Clicking on the links will take you to .SWF Adobe Flash file format files hosted on the official Nick USA website which aren't geo-locked, so the Nickelodeon printables should be available to everyone).

In the interview, Logan revealed that Big Time Rush might be taking on a whole new language just to connect with their fans. After being asked if the third BTR album will include a song in Spanish, Logan replied, "I'm not so sure that the third album will have a song in Spanish, but we are planning on putting out some songs in Spanish and maybe even doing an acoustic album!"

Can you imagine Logan, Carlos, James and Kendall singing sweet serenades en Espanol? Sounds fantastico! But the guys may have to do a little bit of practicing first. "I need to work on brushing up my Spanish though, for sure," Logan admitted. Well, if Logan needs a tutor, we've got the perfect gal in mind...and she goes by the name of Dora [The Explorer]! :)

Millennials generation: scratching the digital marketing itch

Scratch, a small creative team within Viacom, works to connect businesses to those born after 1980 through social media

The worlds of advertising in particular and media in general are currently fawning over the Millennials – those younger men and women born between 1980 and 2000 who, it is thought, have the greatest potential to live inside of the new digital culture.

For them, the smartphone and the Wi-Fi-connected laptop, Twitter feeds, Facebook pages, YouTube videos and all the other internet-inspired communication breakthroughs of the last decade or more are natural phenomena, simply part of the furniture of their lives. This is the generation that is always logged on and any brand considering its future wants to speak to the Millennials, to sell them products and to be involved in their daily lives.

One man, who is in the vanguard of this trend towards those who are replacing Generation X and the baby boomers as the next big thing, is Ross Martin, executive vice-president and head of a New York-based company Scratch, which is almost as hard to describe, as it is difficult to predict the digital future.

Scratch was born two years ago out of MTV, the music television channel that has moved far beyond "just music" with hits like Jersey Shore and Pimp my Ride, but Scratch's 50-strong staff is considered so important (and perhaps so different from the rest of MTV) that it reports directly Rich Eigendorff, the COO of Viacom Media Networks. Martin, who is a producer and programmer as well as holding an advanced degree in poetry, is quick to dismiss the notion that Scratch is Viacom's internal ad agency or a creative agency in any traditional sense.

He calls Scratch a "creative SWAT team" and a "cultural consultancy" that keeps tabs on everything from K-Pop smash hit phenomenon Gangnam Style to what Lady Gaga is up to. Of particular interest is how the Millennials are both interacting with and themselves creating the next cool cultural shifts. "It's difficult to anticipate where the zeitgeist is going and get there before culture does, but that's sort of what I have to try and do," says Martin. In Hong Kong he was speaking at Casbaa, the cable and satellite conference for Asia after a trip to Japan where he "hung out" in underground art bars and met sneaker designers, graffiti artists and photographers who, he says, are forming "visionary" communities both online and offline.

Martin doesn't believe it is possible to keep up with the Millennials but he does think that Viacom channels MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central can "let them speak through our brands and our platforms". Viacom has a separate, global group of some 400 people called Be Viacom run by Dave Sibley that helps brands integrate their messages with Viacom products, increasingly both online and on the ground (through live events such as the MTV EMA awards) and on their TV channels.

The two groups sometimes work together and certainly Martin and Sibley speak at each other's events, but Scratch also provides a sort of socio-cultural consultancy to brands and companies, helping with things like product development and branding that will work better with how this younger generation thinks. Having worked with blue chip companies including Microsoft and HP as well the Guggenheim Museum. Scratch's biggest client at the moment is General Motors. Recently Scratch began running corporate recruiting on several university campuses in the US for GM because the company is interested in changing the DNA of its workforce.

Martin is spending increasing amounts of time outside of the US as part of Viacom's desire to globalise Scratch's particular brand of advice and work. Viacom already does tons of work on younger audiences and international expansion has been on the company agenda for decades. "Two of the biggest issues facing the Millennials are financial services and healthcare," says Martin. "These are both areas that are important not just in the US but globally."

On 15 November Viacom published new research on Millennials called The Next Normal which found that although this generation is really concerned about the flaccid economy and their own dim employment prospects, they largely describe themselves as "very happy". One of the biggest sources of that happiness is their embracing of social media and the internet in general. "One of the core traits of Millennials is hyper-collaboration," explains Martin, which is why social media is such an important part of understanding this next generation. "You can't check a box in social media and be done. It's a 24/7 job and it's really hard. It's alchemy of science, technology and creativity and a degree of magic. If you don't have them all you will fail."

He admits that media companies are "still in the Dark Ages" of tracking the data of how content is consumed across multiple platforms and devices and what that means in terms of monetisation but says media companies are a step ahead of the internet giants like Google and Facebook because media companies are more "cultural anthropologists". While he admits the industry has a lot to learn about data he believes that figuring out the emotional drivers to behaviour are the real keys to understanding and monetising this hyper-connected generation. "What we have to get is that storytelling is different on social than it is on TV and doing events on the ground is different from putting something on a mobile device and you can't afford to be mediocre at any of these things anymore," says Martin. "Our job is to be open to what this next generation needs and wants and be ready and able to amplify the compelling stuff they are creating."

Entertainment One Family has sold seasons one to six of its hit Astley Baker Davies-produced series Peppa Pig to Corus Entertainment's 24-hour preschool net, Treehouse.

Episodes are set to air in March 2013 and eOne and the brand's L&M program [Licensing and Merchandising program] from Toronto's Studio Licensing will launch products in categories such as toys, accessories, outwear and nightwear, footwear, games and puzzles by the end of 2013.

The latest deal follows on the heels of recent Peppa Pig sales international broadcasters including Yo Yo (Taiwan), TVB (Hong Kong), Okto (Singapore), Cineplex (Thailand) and Disney Jr. (Spain and Italy).

To date, the series has been sold to more than 180 territories worldwide.
