The Comedy Club is coming to WelshpoolMike McClean was a Nickelodeon UK Presenter between 1996 and 1999, where he presented Nickelodeon UK's live in-vision continuity studio links in-between programmes, including for the Nickelodeon Programming Blocks "Nick AM" (Nickelodeon UK's live daily breakfast show) and "Nicktoons TV" (a block dedicated to animated Nickelodeon original shows), where he also portrayed a variety of comic characters, including the world renowned fussy art critic 'Michelangelo De La Toon', and also presented Nickelodeon UK's science and education show "Teck Nick", Nickelodeon UK's children's magazine show "And Now This", Nickelodeon UK's computer and video games review show "Fish and Chips" (with Bert The Fish!), Nickelodeon UK's music show "Sussed", and also presented Nickelodeon UK's continuity links for a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.
THE Comedy Club is a nationally-renowned group with a firmly established reputation for making stars of its performers.
In recent years the group has launched the careers of TV funnymen Jimmy Carr, Michael McIntyre and Jason Manford, who have all gone on to become household names.
On Saturday, September 1, the club will be heading to the Royal Oak in Welshpool with a whole new generation of rising stars.
Host for the evening will be Mike McClean, who has hosted numerous television shows for the BBC, ITV, C4, C5, Sky1 and Nickelodeon.
He originally trained as an actor but quickly gravitated towards stand-up comedy. In 2001 Mike moved to Channel 4 and joined The Big Breakfast, where he was soon waking up the nation, knocking on punters doors and interviewing some of the biggest stars, including Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Britney Spears and many bands of the day.
After The Big Breakfast, Mike continued to work for Channel 4 as the roving reporter on Richard & Judy, a job he loved and excelled at for six years.
In 2010 Mike returned to his acting routes, playing 'Father Tony' in Shameless, but now plans to return to the comedy circuit and is developing a new comedy mind reading show, which he plans to take to the Edinburgh Fringe 2012.
Among the comedians performing at the Royal Oak, Welshpool, on Saturday, September 1, are Steve Day and Will Marsh.
Steve Day is a truly unique comedian - warm, witty and engaging while dealing with the dilemmas of being a deaf man in a hearing world.
His stories of multiple children, wearing a suit and the problems caused by not knowing how words are pronounced will have audiences in raptures, and his uplifting tales of overcoming the obstacles in his path will leave crowds feeling inspired.
Steve is a favourite at many venues across the UK and abroad, and is quickly establishing himself as one of the most popular and respected acts on the circuit.
He has become a familiar voice on BBC Radio 4, contributing regular to 'You and Yours', featuring in a half-hour special of 'No Triumph, No Tragedy' and starring alongside Caroline Quentin and Patricia Routledge in 'The Sound Barrier'.
Comedian Will Marsh is from the midlands and he isn't proud of it, but his comedy is far from the middle and he sure is proud of that.
He is likely to give you black comedy and mix it with observations you probably never had. You may even think about life a little differently once he has finished. One thing is guaranteed, once the laughing stops you will wonder just how messed up this world really is.
Doors open at 7.30pm, with show time scheduled for 9pm. Standard tickets, priced at £10, are available from the hotel or by calling 01938 552217, as are £15 tickets which include a meal.
