WINNERs ANNOUNCED FOR THE FIRST EVER NICKELODEON KIDS’ CHOICE AWARDS UK
Emma Watson, McFly, David Beckham, David Walliams, Ant & Dec, The X Factor & Harry Potter Scoop Awards And Fly The Flag For Uk
LONDON, 20th October: Nickelodeon put the kids in control; their votes have been cast and the nation’s kids have spoken. The winners of the first ever Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards UK were revealed today at the slimiest, starriest ceremony ever, held at London’s ExCel.
An astonishing 3,384,620 votes were cast across 16 Award categories, all of which were decided and voted for by the kids, including Best Band, Best Movie, Best Book, Best Burp, Best Reality TV Show, Best Sportsperson and a special environmental honour - the Greenie Award with Sky.
Earlier today, stars including Emma Watson, David Walliams, Shayne Ward, Holly Willoughby, Emma Roberts, Josh Peck and McFly all took part in the hilarious, sketch packed and slime filled show, which was sprinkled with a touch of the stateside sparkle that has made Nickelodeons Kids’ Choice Awards the most loved kids awards show in the USA for the past 20 years.
One lovely lady who took her sliming in very good humour was princess of TV presenting, Holly Willoughby. The usually glammed up and gorgeous ‘Dancing on Ice’ host got gooey of her own accord by putting on her snorkel and diving into a 6ft tank of seriously slippery slime. The fun factor continued to go through the roof as teen superstar Jamie Lynn Spears accepted a challenge from McFly to set the world record for the holding a note for the longest length of time and the boys themselves recruited went all out to thrash the record set for slinging the most slime at an event by this years’ US host Justin Timberlake …all in the name of good ole’ fashioned fun!
Harry Potter and The Simpsons both walked away triumphant, each picking up two awards. Teen screen sensation Emma Watson, the 17-year-old British actress that plays Hermione Grainger in the Harry Potter cinematic triumph, picked up the gong for Best Movie Actress, whilst Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows - the seventh and final book in the globally successful literary series from JK Rowling - picked up the award for Best Book. The magical movies leading lady, Emma Watson was on hand to gracefully accept her award, without getting gooey with slime in the process.
Other guests including Big Brother 8’s Chanelle & Ziggy, Samanda and winner Brian Belo were not so lucky. The reality TV stars were both shamed and slimed as they walked on stage believing they had won an award, only to find out that they had been set up by the Slime Squad so they could gunk them in goo and shower them in..well…slime!
Proving that The Simpsons legacy is still going strong, the TV show won Best Cartoon, and 18 years on from the first ever small screen episode, The Simpsons Movie racked up yet another award for Best Movie whilst High School Musical’s Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale picked up the awards for Best TV Actor and Best TV Actress respectively.
The smash hit Nickelodeon comedy series Drake & Josh picked up the award for Best TV Show, with Josh himself collecting the prize and getting in on the action with his fellow Nickelodeon screen stars, teen sensations Claire Holt, Phoebe Tonkin and Cariba Heine from ‘H20’ - the UK’s number 1 rating drama series for kids and Emma Roberts, star of ‘Unfabulous’ and the upcoming ‘Nancy Drew’ movie.
Simon Cowell went head to head with himself and came out a winner after two of his shows – Britain’s Got Talent and X Factor - were nominated in the Best Reality Show category. However, family favourite X Factor came out on top, with past show winner and chart topper Shayne Ward collecting the gong on behalf of the show. Shayne also showed off some super smooth moves on stage whilst performing his smash hit single ‘No U Hang Up.’
Best Movie Actor award went to the legendary Johnny Depp, beating off competition from silver screen hunks Orlando Bloom, Daniel Radcliffe and, erm, Rowan Atkinson.
Masters of the ceremony, show hosts McFly didn’t go home empty handed either. They were named Best Band, ahead of Fall Out Boy, Girls Aloud and Sugababes. They proved themselves to be top class presenters but also amazing showmen as they did what they do best and performed live - opening the show with an electric performance of ‘Pinball Wizard’ and also treated the 2500 strong crowd with a medley of their greatest hits.
Having already released two successful albums in America, Drake Bell (Drake & Josh) picked up another award, but this time for his solo music efforts, winning the gong for Best Male Singer. And with three albums and a stack of awards already under her belt, angst teen Avril Lavigne won Best Female Singer and MTV Hits Best Music Video.
Across the other categories, loveable Geordie lads and inseparable dynamic duo Ant & Dec picked up the Best TV Presenter accolade (well, it couldn’t go to just one of them!); David Beckham was crowned the king of sports, picking up the Best Sports Person award, Best Video Game went to Sims 2.
Nickelodeon’s role model of the year blimp, the I Wannabe award was scooped by Little Britain funny man and everyone’s favourite big kid at heart, David Walliams who is widely recognised for his charity work as well as for having the nation in stitches.
TV’s slimiest awards event put ‘green’ at the heart of the show, with the Greenie Award with Sky. This award put kids in control of pledging to make a series of small environmental changes that go a long way, such as recycling, turning off the tap, writing on both sides of their school papers, switching TV off from standby and walking or catching the bus instead of being driven around in cars. The most popular pledge was recycling - highlighting the waste recycling efforts of the Nickelodeon viewers. Screen starlet Emma Roberts collected the award and took the pledge herself to help raise awareness and encourage kids across the globe to help make the world a greener place. The Greenie Award with Sky is part of a much wider channel green initiative from Nickelodeon towards a greener planet.
The starriest, slimiest awards show on TV will premiere on Nickelodeon, Saturday 27th October at 11am, on Sunday 28th October at 2pm on MTV Hits and on Saturday 3rd November at 9am on TMF.
