Paramount Drops ‘Smurfs' Movie Trailer

The upcoming live-action / 3DCG hybrid – and extremely blue musical feature sees Smurfette and her friends head to a very real Earth to find Papa Smurf, who’s been kidnapped by Razamel and Gargamel; hits theaters July 18.

Get ready for a Smurfin' good time! Paramount Animation today, February 6, dropped the official trailer for Smurfs, the new CG-animation/live action hybrid movie starring Peyo’s beloved characters coming to theaters on Friday, July 18. The pic is directed by DreamWorks Animation veteran Chris Miller (Puss in Boots, Shrek the Third) and stars global pop phenom Rihanna as Smurfette. Rihanna is also penning original songs for the film.

Fans can also look forward to the new single “Higher Love” from Desi Trill (featuring DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania and Subhi) off the Smurfs film’s soundtrack. Pre-save the song here.

The Smurfs are headed to the real Earth – what could go wrong? - when Papa Smurf (John Goodman) is mysteriously taken by evil wizards, Razamel and Gargamel. Smurfette (Rihanna) leads the Smurfs - including Influencer Smurf - on a mission save him. With the help of new friends – and lots of singing and dancing and doing all manner of blue-type things - the Smurfs must discover what defines their destiny to save the universe.

The live-action / 3DCG hybrid film features an all-star voice cast including Rihanna, James Corden (No Name Smurf), Nick Offerman, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña with Kurt Russell and John Goodman.

Chris Miller (Puss in Boots and Shrek the Third) directs from a script written by Pam Brady (South Park), based on the characters and works of Peyo. Jay Brown, Ty Ty Smith, Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty, and Ryan Harris, p.g.a. produced. Cinesite is producing the animation and VFX.

The Smurfs Movie hits theaters July 18.
