The live-action Aang shares his thoughts on the upcoming Avatar animated movie.
While Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender is working on two new seasons to help bring Aang's live-action journey to an end, these future episodes aren't the only place that fans are set to see some serious bending in the future. In 2026, Avatar Studios will release its first highly anticipated movie in the tentatively titled Aang: The Last Airbender, which is set to focus on the animated Avatar in his adult years following the defeat of Ozai and the Fire Nation.
ComicBook.com recently had the opportunity to chat with Gordon Cormier about the animated project and Avatar Studios' future.
The upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender movie is planning to hit theaters on January 30th, 2026, as Paramount pushed the film back from its initial release date of October 10th, 2025. Rather than seeing the core cast from the original animated series making a comeback for the silver screen outing, new voice actors will be taking on several of the significant roles. Aang himself will be played by Eric Nam, a Korean-American singer who rose to become a K-Pop idol. Joining Nam will be Jessica Batten taking on the role of Katara, Roman Zaragoza playing Sokka, and finally, Dionne Quan portraying Toph. Also confirmed for the cast is legendary actor Dave Bautista as the movie's villain.
Avatar x Avatar: A Meeting of Worlds
At this year's Dragon Con, ComicBook.com chatted with Cormier about the upcoming animated film and how he previously met the voice actor who has taken on the role of the last airbender, "I have met the guy (Eric Nam) playing the new animated Aang. He's a musical artist, and he's really cool. The second I heard that it was going to happen, I got really excited as a fan. I'd really love to watch it, and I can't wait."
Cormier also hilariously noted that should Netflix want to create a live-action adaptation of adult Aang's journey from the upcoming film, he would be more than willing to return to the role past seasons two and three, "I mean, if in my late 40s and I need a job, I guess I will shave my head and stick an arrow on it."

Avatar The Last Airbender: Gordon Cormier Shares the Scenes He’s Most Excited To Film
Gordon Cormier discussed Avatar scenes he can’t wait to bring to life in the future.
Avatar: The Last Airbender’s live-action series was a major hit for Netflix, so it makes sense that the adaptation will return to finish the tale of Aang and the gang’s fight against the Fire Nation. While the live-action adaptation’s first season had its fair share of major moments from the original animated series, there are some big battles and character moments that will populate seasons two and three. In a recent exclusive interview with Gordon Cormier, the young actor who plays Aang in the Netflix series, we asked the die-hard Avatar fan which moments from the original series he is most looking forward to filming.
Gordon Cormier’s love of Avatar: The Last Airbender is no secret. The star of the series has gone on record that he watched the series twenty-six times in preparation for taking on the bending role. During our recent interview at this year’s Dragon Con, a major pop culture convention taking place in Atlanta, Georgia, Cormier confirmed that he had watched the series a “few times” more since stating that he had dove into the bending world dozens of times, “I mean, after watching it 26 times, you really start to figure it out. But I’ve definitely watched it a few times since then.”
Avatar’s Live-Action Future
In discussing the future of the live-action adaptation, Cormier discussed how he can’t wait to welcome Prince Zuko to his team while also excited to have his showdown with the Fire Lord Nation’s ruler, Ozai, “Introducing Zuko into the gang is going to be really dope. The Ozai fight would also be super sick. That’s going to be so cool with all the effects and everything. I think that’s going to look awesome.”
Zuko is one of the most complicated characters that make up Avatar: The Last Airbender’s roster. While he initially sets out to return to the Fire Nation following his banishment, the Prince realizes that the world is not as it seems. When Zuko joins the gang, he goes through a major character journey that remains one of the most interesting aspects of the series to this day.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Stars Tease Season 2 With Their Intense Training Schedule
Dallas Liu and Ian Ousley talk about Avatar’s second season in our exclusive interview.
Avatar: The Last Airbender’s live-action series had some big news for fans at this year’s Netflix Geeked Week Event. For some time, fans had been waiting to see which young actor would take on the role of Toph, the blind earth bender who would help Aang in his bending lessons. On top of the big reveal that Miya Cech was joining the cast for season two and beyond, we here at ComicBook.com had the chance to chat with two of the series veterans. Ian Ousely and Dallas Liu, the live-action Sokka and Prince Zuko, were on the red carpet of Geeked Week to discuss season two and where they’re at in their preparation for the adaptation’s return.
To start our interview, we made sure to bring up the fact that Gordon Cormier, the live-action Aang, had stated in the past that he had seen the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series dozens of times. Dallas Liu hilariously was skeptical of this claim, “Do we really believe he’s watched it twenty-seven times? I’ve heard different numbers before. It started at eight but then we got to twenty-four. Twenty-seven?” Ian Ousley stated that while he hasn’t seen the animated series that many times, he did grow up with Aang and his fellow benders, “We grew up on the show so we have a more core memory. The series came out far before he was born so it makes sense. I only watched it once to go into season two.”
Avatar’s Second Season Boot Camp Has Begun
Dallas confirmed that both himself and Ian are currently in “Boot Camp” for the upcoming season, “We’re in boot camp right now so we’re working on our own characters’ fighting styles. Ian is working on his specialty with weapons and I’m working on some cool wire work stuff. I’m working on improving Zuko’s fire bending as well. Also, there’s a lot of stretching.” Ousley hilariously confirmed the sheer amount of stretching needed, “Seriously, so much stretching is needed.”
What Will Sokka And Zukko Be Up To In Season Two?
As fans of the original animated series know, this upcoming second season will be heavily focused on the Earth Kingdom. While Aang will be busy training with Toph to sharpen his Earth-bending skills, Sokka will be mastering skills of his own. While Sokka never gains the ability to bend water like his sister, his tactical mind and his wielding of unique weapons allow him to hang out with his friends in the heat of battle. Even though Sokka lost his lady love in the season one finale, expect Katara’s big brother to fall in love in the series’ future.
Prince Zuko is a much more complicated matter in the live-action adaptation’s future. While he was still shown searching for the Avatar in the first season’s finale, animated fans are well aware of the internal struggle that the Fire Nation prince is undergoing. Thanks to Princess Azula and her deadly friends set to capture both Zuko and Aang, expect things to heat up for the prince and Uncle Iroh. If the live-action adaptation is your first time diving into the world of bending, expect some major surprises when it comes to Dallas Liu’s character in the upcoming second season.

Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Live-Action Toph Will Be Different From Original Version
Everyone’s favorite Earth Bender might be a tad different than what you expect in live-action.
Netflix’s live-action take on Avatar: The Last Airbender hit the ground floor running, as the streaming service confirmed that following season one, Aang and the gang would receive both a second season and a third to wrap their story. Following the events of the original Nickelodeon animated series, the live-action adaptation was one that both stuck to the source material while also injecting some new story elements into the mix. For the upcoming second season, one of the biggest characters of Avatar will appear in the Earth Bender Toph, but fans might be startled that the blind-warrior might be a tad different.
Toph might have not had the ability to see in the original animated series but that never stopped her from being a force to be reckoned with. Thanks to her Earth Bending prowess, the blind fighter has the ability pull a Matt Murdock and use a type of sonar to read her surroundings. Initially brought onto the Aang gang to teach the Avatar how to Earth bend, Toph proved that she was a master like no other as she was so proficient in her bending that she was able to create an entirely new style. On top of bending the Earth, Toph taught herself how to bend metal itself, which would become a major factor in the Avatar sequel series, The Legend of Korra.
A Changing Toph
During a recent red carpet interview, actress Miya Cech discussed her upcoming role. Cech was confirmed to be playing the blind Earth Bender last year during Netflix’s Geeked Week event and brought to a close a lot of fan speculation surrounding the live-action take on the fan-favorite character. Much like how Aang, Sokka, and Katara had some changes in the Netflix series, so to is Toph going to be a tad different from the source material according to Miya.
“She’s a little bit older so she’s not a little kid anymore. She is still that same spitfire, spunky character who gets to call a certain character ‘Twinkle Toes’. I think there are going to be a lot of things that the fans are going to remember from the animated series and a lot of things that are brand new.”
When Will Season 2 Bend on Netflix?
Avatar: The Last Airbender’s live-action series has confirmed that production is already in full swing for the second season, but this fact doesn’t mean that it will arrive this year. Casting announcement were still being made as soon as last month, meaning that filming is still underway. Even if the second season doesn’t arrive in 2025, it’s a safe bet that Netflix will be releasing more material to promote the upcoming season that will further flesh out the live-action benders.
On the animation front, bending fans are a little more than a year away from seeing Avatar Studios’ first animated movie focusing on Aang’s world. The upcoming original story is one that will focus on older versions of Aang and his friends, tentatively titled Aang: The Last Airbender. While the movie might be over a year away with its release date of January 30th, 2026, bending fans are still beyond excited to see these upcoming adult adventures for the characters who have mostly been kids during their previous battles.
