Pluto TV UK, the world's leading FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) service from Paramount Global, has launched a The Crystal Maze channel in the U.K., airing back-to-back episodes of Channel 4's hit British game show round-the-clock! The channel can be watched via Pluto.tv and through iOS and Android apps, as well as through selected connected TVs. Episodes of The Crystal Maze are also available to download, along with Come Dine With Me.
At the moment, Pluto TV's The Crystal Maze channel seems to be airing mainly the 2017 revival series featuring Richard Ayoade as the Maze Master, along with his wooden hand. It's currently unknown whether the channel will eventually add classic episodes featuring Richard O'Brien (Rocky Horror, Shock Treatment) and Ed Tudor-Pole as Maze Masters, the 2016 Stand Up To Cancer edition featuring Stephen Merchant as the Maze Master, or the Nickelodeon version, made for American audiences, featuring Adam Conover as the Maze Master.
Devised by Jacques Antoine, based upon his format for the French game show Fort Boyard, The Crystal Maze features a Maze Master who is charged with guiding one team of intrepid adventurers through physical and mental challenges set within an elaborate labyrinth of four giant and immersive themed zones. The successful completion of escape-room style challenges are rewarded with a “time crystal” granting the team five seconds in the centerpiece final zone called the Crystal Dome. The more crystals gathered throughout the game, the more time each team has for a dramatic clock countdown challenge inside the iconic Dome for a chance to win a money-can't-buy prize.
The show's iconic theme song is the legendary "Force Field", below. Ayoade's version of the series was filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol.
Fingers crossed that Pluto TV gets the rights to Treasure Hunt and Interceptor next!
