LATAM seals agreement with Paramount+ and becomes the only airline in South America that offers this entertainment service to its passengers
Monday 04 December 2023
Since December 1, 2023, LATAM has free and exclusive Paramount+ content on its LATAM Play onboard entertainment service. This comes after reaching an agreement with the company, including the availability of streaming platform content throughout its operation: over 300 planes serving 148 destinations in 25 countries.
Following this milestone, LATAM becomes the only South American airline to feature Paramount+ content in its onboard service. This allows its passengers to choose from over 70 episodes of exclusive Paramount+ series, including highlights such as HALO, Tulsa King, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, School Spirits, Rugrats, iCarly‘s live-action reboot and The Really Loud House among others.
"We celebrate our collaboration with Paramount+ to further enhance the global experience of our passengers. At LATAM, we constantly strive to offer exceptional journeys, and this exciting agreement underscores our strong commitment. The innovations we bring aim not only to connect with the emotions of passengers but also to ensure that every journey with us is an unforgettable experience," highlighted Paulo Miranda, Vice President of Customers at LATAM Airlines Group.
Meanwhile, Marco Nobili, Executive Vice President and International General Manager of Paramount+, stated: "At Paramount+, we constantly seek innovative ways to bring our content to as many viewers as possible, wherever they are, even in the skies. The partnership with LATAM Airlines allows us to reach a captive audience of consumers while they are traveling, and there is no better way to discover a new series or enjoy a program than when you are flying. Making our Paramount+ content available to LATAM Airlines customers is great for travelers and a testament to our commitment to providing exceptional consumer entertainment experiences to our fans."
Currently, LATAM Play also has an alliance with HBO Max, allowing it to offer its customers over 170 movies, more than 430 series episodes, over 1,000 songs, and children's and reading content for them to enjoy during their travels. In the coming year, LATAM aims to grow its content offering by over 50%, consolidating its position as a leader in the region with world-class content.
Paramount has recently struck similar deals with Aussie airline Qantas (2022), British Airways (2022) and Germany’s national rail service Deutsche Bahn (January 2023).
Distribution through in-flight entertainment dipped during the pandemic, but new business in this market has been flourishing lately. License fees for kids content haven’t totally rebounded yet, but they are starting to level off, according to distributors.
With more than 63 million subscribers worldwide, the Paramount+ streaming platform has been involved in producing a wide variety of original programming for younger viewers, including original series like Star Trek: Prodigy, Big Nate and Transformers: EarthSpark, and films such as Blue’s Big City Adventure.
