Channel 5's Milkshake! will premiere the brand new preschool series MixMups on Saturday 4th November 2023 at 8:15am! The series follows the adventures of pre-school friends Pockets, Giggle and Spin along with their assistance pets Roller Guinea and Yapette the guide dog. The pals visit a sports stadium to fulfil Spin's dream of becoming an Olympic gold-medal winner.

Inspired by children’s love of mixing items and styles of play, MixMups is a brand new series that aims to teach individuality, imagination, friendship, and flexible thinking.
Created by–and featuring–people with disabilities, MixMups‘ three lead characters live with their friends and assistance pets in a wheelchair-accessible house. In each episode, characters Pockets, Giggle and Spin use their magical wooden spoon and mixing box to transport themselves on adventures and test their problem-solving skills.
A first for the network, the 52 x 10-minute stop-motion animated series was developed and is produced with support from the UK’s Young Audiences Content Fund (YACF). It was commissioned by Milkshake! in 2021.
The series was created by Rebecca Atkinson, founder of the #ToyLikeMe campaign which called for more diversity in kids industries. In a release, Atkinson said she is ecstatic the show is moving forward and that her dream has been to draw on her own experiences as a disabled person and create a show to which kids can relate.
MixMups is the latest YACF series to be added to Milkshake!’s preschool lineup. Other series to receive the greenlight with the help of the fund include Milo, Winnie & Wilbur and live-action series The World According to Grandpa.

Three playful friends with a light-up wooden spoon and mixing box, combine play and imagination to create magical comedy adventures.
Spin is the embodiment of Mixmupish physical PLAY – the child who cannot contain their urge to move. He’s loveable, charming and engaging but sometimes doesn’t know when to stop. He talks before he thinks, is loud when he should be quiet and moves fast when he needs to be slow. A team player, Spin hates being alone and loves to infect those around him with his playful exuberance and draw them into his games.

Pockets is the embodiment of the Mixmups’ whole child every child, approach. Thoughtful, considered, warm and empathetic, Pockets is the provider. She loves arranging, collecting and squirrelling. She will gently and quietly collect and admire shiny conkers or acorns, lining them up in rows studying the touch and smell, sizes and colours.

Giggle is the embodiment of Mixmupish inventiveness and creativity. She is curious, imaginative, confident with an infectious giggle and a lively mind. She mixes up ideas, experiences, concepts with her rich imagination, unique perspective and playful spirit to create unexpected ‘other ways’ to play.
