The Directors Guild of America has announced the exciting news that Michael Lembeck and Jeff Wadlow have received nominations in the "Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Children's Programs" category of the 74th Annual DGA Awards for their directorial work on the Nickelodeon movie The J Team and limited-series Are You Afraid Of The Dark?: Curse Of The Shadows, respectively!
Jeff Wadlow has been nominated for his work on the Are You Afraid Of The Dark?: Curse Of The Shadows episode "The Tale of the Darkhouse", the concluding episode of the the second season of Nickelodeon's revival of the iconic '90s horror anthology series. In the episode, Luke (Bryce Gheisar, The Astronauts) gets help from the beyond to uncover more supernatural secrets and devises a bold plan to finally end the curse of the shadows. The episode premiered March 19, 2021 on Nickelodeon.
Meanwhile, Michael Lembeck has been nominated for his work on the Nickelodeon movie The J Team, starring Nickelodeon superstar and social media sensation JoJo Siwa. The film follows a young girl named JoJo (Siwa) whose life is turned upside down when her beloved dance coach Val (Hiccups) decides to retire and is replaced by a sparkle-hating instructor named Poppy (Tisha Campbell-Martin). Wanting to stay in the running for an upcoming dance competition, JoJo and her best friends, The Rubies (Kerrynton Jones, Kiara T. Romero), must try their hardest to abide by Poppy's new, harsh rules. Realizing she cannot hide her sparkle or bow anymore, JoJo is kicked out of her dance troupe and must rediscover what dancing means to her. The movie made its debut on Paramount+, the streaming service from ViacomCBS in September 2021, and premiered on Nickelodeon in November 2021.
