Exclusive: Mitchell Berg Talks 'Side Hustle' Cast', Living The Dream
Nickelodeon's newest star discusses joining 'Side Hustle' and what he's most excited for fans to see from his character, Fisher.
Given its track record of flighting some of the most iconic kids shows to date from as far back as the 90s, it's no surprise that many 13-year-olds across the globe dream of making it as a Nickelodeon star and joining the ranks of former Nickelodeon stars like Ariana Grande and Miranda Cosgrove.
However, for MItchell Berg, that dream became his reality when he was cast as a series regular on the network's Side Hustle.
TheThings caught up with him to hear all about his character in the hit show - plus, his reaction the moment he learned he'd snagged the part!
Mitchell Opens Up About Joining The Cast Of 'Side Hustle'
Having previously featured in Nickelodeon's Henry Danger as Lill' Dynomite, Mitchell is no stranger to being on a hit show.
However, his excitement at joining the cast of Side Hustle is palpable.
Asked how it felt, knowing what the future held, Mitchell doesn't skip a beat: "it feels unbelievable!"
"One day I was training in a local studio, and the next I was cast as a series regular," he continues, adding that there are still moments when he feels like he needs to pinch himself to see if it's all really happening.
"Every now and then," he gushes, "it is hard to believe that I get to make a show with so many cool people."
It also doesn't hurt, he adds, that his character is "super fun to play."
Mitchell Recounts The Moment He Learned He'd Been Cast On 'Side Hustle'
As for how he reacted when he found out he'd be playing Fisher in the show, Mitchell thinks back on the audition process.
"I was invited to a table read with Jayden Bartels and Jules LeBlanc when the show was first getting off the ground," he recalls.
And, as he previously told StudentPages, the rest is history.
"It went really well, and I was offered the part a few days later," he smiles, going on to say that he was "shocked and very excited" when he received the news.
Mitchell Tells Us About His Character On 'Side Hustle', Fisher
On his character, Fisher, Mitchell shares, "he's a science and technology genius with a huge, not-so-secret crush on Lex," - AKA Jules LeBlanc's character.
"He is awesome at science," Mitchell continues, chuckling, "but has a lot to learn when it comes to life."
"So, he's either learning the ways of the world or he's coming up with crazy inventions to help his sister and friends earn money in their part-time jobs."
Mitchell Reveals What Fans Can Expect From Fisher In 'Side Hustle'
So, what can viewers look forward to seeing from Fisher?
For starters, Mitchell jokes, a whole lot of misadventures are in store for his character.
"In a recent Halloween episode, Fisher turned Lex's old stuffed bear into a living creature. This would help the kids make their haunted house scary, so they could earn more money."
A great plan in theory - but, as Mitchell explains, not the best in practice.
"The bear turns evil," the actor laughs, "and all sorts of craziness happens."
The Thing Mitchell Is MOST Excited For 'Side Hustle' Fans To See
With laugh-a-minute plots in abundance, it's hard for Mitchell to pinpoint just one thing he's excited for viewers to see. However, he explains that he's probably most excited for fans to stay dialed into Fisher's "next big invention" - and it all comes down to learning from a new perspective.
"Kids are getting the chance to do a lot of STEM learning in school, and it is usually super fun because it's less books and more hands-on."
However, part of what makes Fisher so exciting for Mitchell is how he takes what many kids are learning and kicks it up a notch - or several!
"At my school, we got to make hot air balloons, Rube Goldberg machines, drones, you name it. Fisher takes all that stuff to the next level, so it's always fun for kids (myself included!) to see what he's coming up with."
With new inventions, misadventures and plenty of laughs to boot, Side Hustle has everything an audience could want - and we can't wait to keep up with Fisher and his antics!

Speaking of the former, Mitchell explains, "the foundation's purpose is to provide financial support to enhance theatre education and to expand access to school theatre programs for every child."
Asked about how he first got involved in the program, he shares, "I got involved with a livestreamed event called Project Sing Out to support the foundation and to expand access to school theatre programs when it became clear that arts education would be sacrificed in schools - particularly in low-income communities and communities of color - due to the costs associated with keeping schools open during Covid-19."
"I wanted to be involved with something tat would help kids keep getting access to the arts in their schools."
As for The Broadway Advocacy Coalition, Mitchell explains that the organization, "uses storytelling and artistry to dismantle systems that perpetuate racism, including in the theatre industry."
"Together with a diverse group of artists, I was involved in a really moving video, set to 'The New World' by Jason Robert Brown, to raise money for the coalition to carry out its mission."

Mitchell is certainly a talented young man with a bright future ahead of him - and as he looks set to follow in the footsteps of other big-hearted celebs who love giving back, this star's combined sense of humor and consciousness are sure to keep his light shining for years to come.

Exclusive: Nickelodeon Star Mitchell Berg's Advice For Aspiring Actors
Star of Nickelodeon's 'Side Hustle,' Mitchell Berg has already made a name for himself - now he's happy to help others do the same!
Side Hustle actor, Mitchell Berg is on his way to mega-stardom, but he's also determined to help others achieve their dreams.
This is one Nickelodeon star who believes there's enough space for everyone with aspirations of making it big - and, as he recently revealed to Student Pages, he's more than happy to share his pearls of wisdom with anyone looking for pointers.
In an exclusive interview with TheThings, Mitchell shared his advice for Hollywood hopefuls, and spoiler alert: much of it comes down to mindset.
Mitchell Opens Up About How He Got His Start In The Business
Reflecting back on the early days of his career, Mitchell reveals that he was first bitten by the performing bug at the tender age of 9.
"I was involved with a great triple threat studio near my home," he shares, referring to The Center Stage Studio in Aliso Viejo, which also boasts alum including The Goldbergs' Mia Kaplan and Pentatonix Kids member, Celine Ngo.
"As I kept pursuing acting, singing and dancing as my main after-school activity," Mitchell continues, "things just kind of naturally happened."
And by 'things', he's referring to not just one, but two Nickelodeon gigs: as fans may already be aware, prior to becoming a series regular on Side Hustle, Mitchell also featured in the hugely popular Henry Danger.
Mitchell Berg's Advice For Hollywood Hopefuls
Given his own phenomenal success since joining The Center Stage, it's no surprise that Mitchell is a strong advocate for similar organizations.
"After-school programs offered at your school or in local community organizations are low-cost and a great way to begin," he suggests, adding, "this is how I started learning guitar and the lessons are great."
As for those who might not have similar resources in their communities, Mitchell explains that even a lack of access shouldn't hinder anyone's dreams.
"I suggest making use of the many free resources on the internet. You can learn a lot from videos," he explains.
Mitchell also points out that those free resources can be the springing board to professional lessons if they do become available at some stage, or when finances allow.
"[Once you learn the basics from free resources, you can] take lessons from time to time to get corrections and get to the next level."
"Finally," Mitchell shares, "consider calling local studios and ask if they have any scholarships available, or if there are ways you can trade hours for training. I know many studios love to have talent, and sometimes families can help with costumes, ticket sales, or front desk work to help pay tuition."
Mitchell On The Importance Of Mindset
In light of all the avenues he suggests to aspiring entertainers, it's clear that Mitchell believes anything is possible for those who put their minds to it - and he's pretty good at taking his own advice, too!
Aside from his undeniable talent, like countless other celebrities including fellow child star, Tia Mowry have revealed, Mitchell's secret to success lies in positivity.
Asked what he would tell his younger self, he doesn't miss a beat: "keep believing in yourself, work hard, and stay positive" - pointers he shares for those hoping to follow in his footsteps.
"Stay positive and don't give up," he urges.
Mitchell Reveals What's Next For Him
With so much going on in his life, from performing to his outreach efforts, one would be forgiven for forgetting that Mitchell is just 13 years old. However, this star on the rise is just getting started.
"I love what I'm doing now, and I want to keep growing as a performer and eventually consider other roles in the industry," he ponders. "I love being creative, so spending my time to make amazing entertainment is what I want to keep doing."
We have no doubts that Mitchell will go on to do just that - and in the meantime, it's heartwarming knowing that he's happy to help others reach that point, too!
