In June 2017, Nickelodeon surprised and delighted fans by revealing that one of the main characters on the network's hit animated comedy series The Loud House was part of the LGBTQ+ community. A year earlier, they revealed that one of the supporting characters had same-sex parents, helping to increase LGBTQ+ representation in children's television, which earned the series a raft of GLAAD Media Award nominations. Now the show's spin-off The Casagrandes is set to follow suit!
In the upcoming season two episode "Throwing Pains," it is revealed that Ronnie Anne's classmate at Cesar Chavez Academy, Becky, is a lesbian, and that she is dating a fellow student named Dodge. Dodge confirms that she is in a relationship with Becky by introducing her as her "girlfriend".

The episode has aired on YTV in Canada and is set to air on Nickelodeon channels globally in November. A U.S. airdate has yet to be announced.
In addition to Becky and Dodge, The Casagrandes is set to introduce a non-binary character in its upcoming third season, who will be voiced by Puerto Rican actor Vico Ortiz.
Non-binary or genderqueer is an umbrella term for gender identities that are neither male nor female—identities that are outside the gender binary. Non-binary identities fall under the transgender umbrella, since non-binary people typically identify with a gender that is different from their assigned sex, though some non-binary individuals do not consider themselves transgender.
Non-binary people may identify as an intermediate or separate third gender, identify with more than one gender, no gender (agender), or have a fluctuating gender identity (genderfluid). Gender identity is separate from sexual or romantic orientation, and non-binary people have a variety of sexual orientations, just as cisgender people do.
The Casagrandes tells the story of 11-year-old Ronnie Anne who moves to the city with her mom and older brother to live with their big, loving family, the Casagrandes.
After moving in with their grandparents in Great Lakes City, Ronnie Anne adjusts to her new life living under one roof and over the family-run mercado (local market), which is a gathering place for everyone in the neighborhood. The series showcases the culture, humor, and love that’s part of growing up in a multigenerational Mexican-American family.
Making its debut in October 2019, The Casagrandes is currently in its second season, with a third season is currently in production.
