Havre De Grace, MD - The SpongeBob Musical is coming to the Cultural Center at the Opera House in Havre de Grace starting on Friday, September 17 for a two-week run.
One of the first community theater shows following the COVID-19 pandemic, this musical is based on the Nickelodeon beloved animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants. It made its world premiere in June 2016 in Chicago and opened on Broadway in December 2017. The show opened to critical acclaim, and with 12 Tony Award nominations - winning for "Best Scenic Design of a Musical" - it tied for the most-nominated production at the 72nd Tony Awards in 2018.
Here’s the Tidewater Players’ cast for the musical: SpongeBob (Tyler White of Baltimore), Squidward (Rob Tucker of Belcamp), Patrick (Bobby Mahoney of Belcamp), Sandy (Lindsey Rosser of Bel Air), Plankton (Eyvo Johnson of Aberdeen) and Mr. Krabbs (Matthew Peterson of Northeast).
The SpongeBob Musical is based on the animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg and features a book by Kyle Jarrow, with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton, with additional music by Tom Kitt.
The musical production was conceived by Tina Landau. Directed and choreographed by Bambi Johnson with musical direction by Nathan Scavilla.

The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage! was broadcast in December 2019 across Nickelodeon platforms and featured much of the original Broadway company reprising their performances, including Tony nominee Ethan Slater as the high-energy title sponge, Tony nominee Gavin Lee as Squidward Q. Tentacles, Danny Skinner as Patrick Star, Brian Ray Norris as Eugene Krabs, and Wesley Taylor as Sheldon Plankton. The TV event is available to stream on Paramount+ and now is available on DVD.
