The Siwa Dance Pop Revolution (working title) was developed by Bryan Stinson of Stinson Media and Jessalynn Siwa (JoJo’s mom and manager). Evolution Media will produce the series, represented by Alex Baskin, Douglas Ross, Brian McCarthy and Sean Rankine as EPs, along with Stinson, Jessalynn, JoJo and Caryn Sterling.
The live-action competition series is a spin on the star search model, following Jessalynn and JoJo as they create and launch a brand-new pop music group. The duo will hunt for the most talented kids—specifically triple-threats who can sing, dance and act—through a series of competitions and performances.
Prior to the announcement, JoJo teased via Instagram that something was in the works. “Pretttty big announcement coming soon,” the songstress wrote alongside a picture of her and her mom. In her own social media post, Jessalynn shared, “Patiently waiting to tell you all EVERYTHING xo!”
The duo also officially announced Studio Siwa, which according to the official Instagram account, is set to launch in June 2021.
2021 has so-far been a big year for JoJo. In January, the star came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, prompting love and support from her millions of fans. She later gave an inspiring speech at the 32nd annual GLAAD Awards in April. Fans have also launched a petition to rename an airport after the YouTuber.
JoJo originally became popular on reality series Dance Moms, and then parlayed that success onto YouTube, where she currently has 12.3 million subscribers. A partnership with Nickelodeon, which has encompassed merchandise and several TV and digital series (including The JoJo and BowBow Show Show), has helped Siwa expand her brand and fanbase.
Aside from their new unscripted series, JoJo also has a musical in the works for Nickelodeon. Titled The J Team, the movie “follows a young girl named JoJo whose life is turned upside down when her beloved dance coach Val decides to retire and is replaced by a sparkle-hating instructor named Poppy. Wanting to stay in the running for an upcoming dance competition, JoJo and her best friends, The Rubies, must try their hardest to abide by Poppy’s new, harsh rules. Realizing she cannot hide her sparkle or bow anymore, JoJo is kicked out of her dance troupe and must rediscover what dancing means to her.”
The actor filmed the upcoming flick in Vancouver throughout March 2021.
With JoJo's career heading into new directions, SIWANATORZ have been wondering whether or not the star will be staying at Nickelodeon. Fans can rest assured, however! Siwa’s publicist confirmed to Kidscreen at press time that her relationship with Nickelodeon will continue.
Fans can watch JoJo's Nickelodeon specials on Paramount+!
