To celebrate the release of The Mortuary Collection (premieres on Shudder on Oct. 15), actor and voice actor Clancy Brown recently Zoom'ed Entertainment Weekly to talk about his new movie!
In addition to talking about The Mortuary Collection as well as his roles in iconic movies such as Highlander, The Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers and about joining the cast of Billions, Brown also talked about voicing Mr. Krabs on Nickelodeon's beloved animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants, which has ensured the actor to keeps the wolf from the door — and his offspring in schoolbooks!
"Mr. Krabs! Yeah, that was a complete lark. It was a crazy little cartoon that they were putting together for Nickelodeon back in the day," Brown revealed to EW. "I just went in and did sort of a pirate-y voice and I got lucky and Steve (Hillenburg, the show's late creator) said, 'You’re the guy.' Nobody thought it was going to go on for 20-frigging years for crying out loud, but it has, and it’s a lot of fun, they're a great group of people. It put my kid through college, so I can’t complain."

The Mortuary Collection premieres on Shudder on Oct. 15.

Exclusive: Clancy Brown Talks The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run PVOD Release
While chatting with the 61-year-old star for his turn in the horror-comedy anthology The Mortuary Collection, ComingSoon.net talked with Clancy Brown about the upcoming The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run and its shift from a theatrical release to a digital PVOD debut on Paramount+ in early 2021. Our interview can be viewed in the player [here]!
The film, previously titled It’s a Wonderful Sponge, will be the first 3D computer-animated SpongeBob movie, which is being described as a love letter to the franchise’s original creator Steven Hillenburg, who passed away last November, as well as the fans of the show, not to mention the fictional residents of Bikini Bottom.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run will feature a score by Hans Zimmer and original songs by Ali Dee. The film will also be featuring the voices of Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) and Reggie Watts (Tuca & Bertie). In addition, pop star legend Cyndi Lauper and co-writer Rob Hyman are working on original songs for the film. It is being produced by Paramount Animation in collaboration with Nickelodeon Movies and United Plankton Pictures.
Since its debut in 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has become the most widely distributed property in Viacom International Media Networks history, seen in more than 208 countries and territories, translated in 55+ languages, and averaging more than 100 million total viewers every quarter. This marks the third feature-length adventure, after 2004’s The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie, and 2015’s Sponge Out of Water.
The project is being directed by Tim Hill and produced by Ryan Harris with choreography by Mia Michaels and is set to hit Paramount+ in early 2021, while The Mortuary Collection is now available to stream on Shudder!

From Today:
Clancy Brown on favorite line as Mr. Krabs on 'SpongeBob SquarePants'
He says it's his favorite line from the whole show.
Clancy Brown isn’t shy about speaking like Mr. Krabs, the character he has voiced for over 20 years on “SpongeBob SquarePants.”
“It's always fun when Mr. Krabs gets a joke that he gets to tell. He turns everything into an ‘r,’ adds an extra syllable-ble-ble or two sometimes into his dialogue,” he says in Mr. Krabs’ recognizable tone.
He says there is one line that stands out to him, from the episode “My Pretty Seahorse,” when SpongeBob adopts a seahorse as a pet. SpongeBob tells Mr. Krabs he will name the horse Mystery.
“Mr. Krabs looks as SpongeBob and he says, ‘You're a mystery, SpongeBob.’ That's my favorite line in the whole show,” he said.
Another favorite aspect to working on “SpongeBob SquarePants” has been getting to work with his fellow voice actors, including Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass and Mr. Lawrence.
“Getting together with the other guys every week ... it's sort of perniciously wonderful. You don't realize how much you care about them but after doing this for 20 years, they've really become like brothers from another mother to me,” he said.
Brown currently stars in “The Mortuary Collection.” He says he was blown away by the script and wanted to meet writer and director Ryan Spindell.
“I sat down with him over a diner omelet and he was just the most sincere, most honest, most straightforward guy who said, ‘I just love telling stories,'" he said.
Brown was sold on the project and enjoyed being able to transform into the character of Montgomery Dark, a local mortician.
“(Spindell) delivered in spectacular fashion. He assembled a team that took what little money he had and turned it into a really tremendous show. I think it's visually stunning. Allison Friedman is the producer that kind of gathered all the money together and pulled it out of the ash heap. And turned it over to Ryan to make what is, I think, one of the best things I've ever done,” he said.
“The Mortuary Collection” is available on Shudder now. Shudder is available to stream on most devices as well as via Amazon Prime Video channels, Apple TV channels and Roku channels.
