GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, has announced the very exciting news that Nickelodeon has received three nominations in the "Outstanding Kids & Family Programming" category of the 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards! The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community and the issues that affect their lives.
Nickelodeon's hit animated series The Loud House has been nominated for for featuring accurate and inclusive representations of the gay and bisexual communities. The series currently features four LGBTQ+ characters: Lincoln's best friend, Clyde McBride has two fathers, Harold and Howard; and Lincoln's sister, Luna, and her crush, Sam, are bi-sexual.
Nickelodeon's popular animated preschool series Nella the Princess Knight has garnered a nomination for the episode “A Tale of Two Nellas”. In the episode, which premiered on Sunday, October 20, 2019, when Gork dresses as Nella for a costume party, a tricky villain mistakes him for the real princess knight.
And Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling (lead image), the Nickelodeon Original Movie which picks up where the original '90s Rocko's Modern Life series left off, with Rocko, Heffer and Filburt having been lost in outer space since 1996. The special is celebrated for featuring a prominent transgender character named Rachel. When the gang blasts back to earth, they have to get to grips 21st century modern life, and soon discover that Ralph Bighead, the child of Mr. and Mrs. Bighead and creator of their favorite TV show The Fatheads, is now a woman named Rachel. The movie debuted on Netflix in August 2019. The production team worked closely with GLAAD to make the storytelling as authentic and knowledgeable as possible.
Additionally, the Arthur episode "Mr. Ratburn and the Special Someone", in which Mr. Ratburn comes out as being homosexual and getting married, is also nominated in "Outstanding Kids & Family Programming" category of the 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards!
This year, GLAAD is expanding it's "Outstanding Kids & Family Programming" category to ten nominees as a result of an increase in LGBTQ images across the kids and family television programming and an increase in GLAAD’s work to advocate for inclusion in this genre. Rounding out GLAAD's "Outstanding Kids & Family Programming" category are: Andi Mack (Disney Channel); Danger & Eggs for the episode "Chosen Family" (Amazon); Doc McStuffins for the episode "The Emergency Plan" (Disney Channel); and Steven Universe (Cartoon Network).
Andi Mack (The Disney Channel), The Bravest Knight (Hulu), High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (Disney+), She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (Netflix), Steven Universe: The Movie (Cartoon Network) and Twelve Forever (Netflix).

The 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards nominees were published, released, or broadcast between Tuesday, January 1 and Tuesday, December 31, 2019. The GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies, which fund GLAAD's work to accelerate LGBTQ acceptance, will be held in New York at the Hilton Midtown on Thursday, March 19, 2020 and Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton on Thursday, April 16, 2020. GLAAD recently announced that Taylor Swift will receive the Vanguard Award and Janet Mock will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. Special honorees for the 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York will be announced in coming weeks.
The 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards are presented by Gilead, Hyundai, and Ketel One Family-Made Vodka.
