In an effort to appeal to a broader, co-viewing audience, Nickelodeon has appointed veteran unscripted TV producer Paul J. Medford as Vice President (VP) of current series for its unscripted division.
In his new role, Medford will serve as executive in charge of Nick’s current slate of live-action unscripted shows, including previously greenlit series America’s Most Musical Family, The Substitute and Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader. He will also manage the creative production process for the division’s content across all of Nickelodeon’s platforms.
Reporting to Rob Bagshaw, Executive Vice President (EVP) of Unscripted Content, Medford will operate out of Nickelodeon’s Burbank headquarters. His role includes managing the creative production process for unscripted content across all platforms.
Before joining Nickelodeon, Medford was a talent producer at LA-based unscripted-focused company Bunim/Murray Productions, which is currently co-producing a U.S. version of the hit British game show The Crystal Maze with Nickelodeon. Bagshaw also previously served at BMP as Senior Vice President (SVP) and head of its New York office before jumping to Nick when it launched its unscripted division in January.
Prior to BMP, Medford cast and produced a number of series, including America’s Next Top Model, Project Runway and Skin Wars, as well as E!’s upcoming The Funny Dance Show. He began his career in front of the camera, including roles in the BBC soap EastEnders and a range of stage productions.
Bagshaw said, “Paul’s extensive experience in film, theater, television and music, together with his reputation and passion for unscripted content makes him an invaluable asset to Nickelodeon. We are thrilled to have him join our expanding unscripted division, creating a slate of exciting new content focused on co-viewing for a broad audience.”
