Viacom is expanding its subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service Paramount+ globally and has struck a mobile distribution deal in Latin America. Building on its existing presence in Scandinavia and Central and Eastern Europe, Paramount+ will become available May 1 in Brazil before rolling it more widely.
The service is currently available in the Nordics and across Central and Eastern Europe where it offers the exclusive first pay-window for Paramount movies such as The Godfather, Shutter Island, True Grit, Star Trek Into Darkness and The Ring as well as MTV and Comedy Central titles including Inside Amy Schumer, Geordie Shore, Broad City, Teen Mom and South Park.
From Wednesday, May 1, the service will be available in Brazil to mobile subscribers via NET, marking the first mobile distribution partnership in Latin America. It will also be available to NET subscribers and non-subscribers via Android and iOS apps and will roll out across Latin America through Claro Video, part of telecom from America Movil, with the company hoping to reveal a raft of additional pay-TV, internet and mobile deals.
Paramount+ in Latin America will offer series on-demand, including The Handmaids' Tale and Paramount Network original Yellowstone along with more than 2,000 episodes of programs from Viacom’s other flagship channels, including Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Comedy Central and MTV. The service will also provide on-demand access to a curated library of more than 150 movies from Paramount Pictures.

Viacom International Media Networks is set to expand the Paramount+ streaming video platform to Latin America.
The SVOD service, which first launched in Scandinavia (in response to HBO Nordics in 2017 and later in Central and Eastern Europe – known as Paramount Play), will become available May 1 in Brazil in a partnership with telecom NET, followed by wider distribution through a mobile deal with America Movil.

Indeed, while Paramount+ represents Viacom’s aggressive strategy to close the digital divide with rival studios, following the recent purchase of Pluto TV, Viacom is fortifying the ad-supported VOD platform with proprietary and third-party content.
Pluto TV just announced a new channel launch featuring content from WarnerMedia’s CNN – which itself is planning an OTT video product in 2020.

Viacom lanza su OTT en LatAm: Paramount+
Ezequiel Fonseca Zas, SVP de Emerging Bussines de Viacom International Media Networks Americas, reveló a ttvnews el lanzamiento de la OTT Paramount+ y explicó los detalles de la nueva apuesta digital del grupo en la región.
Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) anunció este martes el lanzamiento en América Latina de Paramount+, OTT que ofrecerá los contenidos de la compañía en la región y que se comercializará tanto mediante los operadores como de manera directa al consumidor.
Y para conocer más detalles sobre la plataforma, ttvnews dialogó con Ezequiel Fonseca Zas, SVP de Emerging Bussines de Viacom International Media Networks Americas, quien explicó el alcance y los objetivos de la apuesta.
El lanzamiento, detalló Fonseca Zas, será el próximo 30 de abril en Brasil por medio del operador local NET y más adelante llegará a toda la región por medio de Claro Video.
En ambos casos será un "add-on" que se pagará por encima de las suscripciones actuales. Y en junio se lanzará la OTT en las tiendas de iOs y Android para comercializar la plataforma de manera directa al consumidor.
Su precio oscilará entre los US$ 4 y los US$ 4,5, según los territorios, y las pruebas gratuitas variarán de cero a siete días.
"Viacom hoy está anunciado el lanzamiento de Paramount+. Es un producto para toda la familia, que ya existe. Se lanzó primero en los mercados de Dinamarca, Suecia y Noruega hace un año y medio y en Finlandia en 2018. Además, está creciendo en Europa del Este", explicó el ejecutivo a ttvnews.

Efectivamente, Paramount+ ofrecerá múltiples títulos de las marcas globales de Viacom, como MTV, Comedy Central, Paramount Channel y Nickelodeon, así como contenidos de terceros, como The Handmaids’ Tale y Yellowstone.
Contará además con contenidos de Telefe y Porta Dos Fundos, así como 150 películas de los principales estudios de Hollywood en su lanzamiento. En total, el 85% de su oferta será propia de Viacom.
"Vamos a mezclar y a combinar una curaduría muy especial entre los contenidos originales y los locales. En América Latina tenemos 13 estudios y vamos a poner mucho contenido local en Brasil, en Argentina, en México, como por ejemplo stand ups de Comedy Central, los realities de MTV, los títulos de Nickelodeon", detalló Fonseca Zas.
"Todos los contenidos convivirán con una buena estrategia de ventaneo. Telefe es una marca muy poderosa en producción de contenidos, como Portas dos Fundos en Brasil. Parte de sus contenidos van a estar en la plataforma, pero eso no significa que vayamos a descuidar su pantalla o su app (MiTelefe)", explicó.

"En resumen, Paramount+ viene a agregar todo el contenido Premium de Viacom. Y es parte de la idea que algunos contenidos se estrenen primero en Paramount+, pero vamos a ser muy cuidadosos de cómo vamos a manejar esto de la mano de nuestros partners", añadió.
Grandes expectativas
De acuerdo a Ezequiel Fonseca Zas, las proyecciones internas de Viacom revelan que el mercado OTT crecerá en América Latina un 83% en los próximos cinco años, hasta los 40 millones de suscriptores.
"Eso solo contando los servicios de streaming directos. No contamos los OTT de los operadores, como Flow o Izzi o los TV Everywhere", puntualizó.
"Y eso nos da un mercado de 4.000 millones de dólares, casi el doble de lo que es hoy", agregó.
Así, desde Viacom ven que aunque el mercado va a estar dominado por dos grandes players, como suele suceder en los mercados consolidados, existe un espacio para una tercera opción, más complementaria.
"Va a haber un mercado muy importante del restante 20%, que va a ser muy grande, de más de 300 millones de dólares. Nosotros queremos liderar gran parte de ese mercado, creemos que va a haber mucha complementariedad. No creemos que la gente vaya a tener 17 OTTs, van a tener en promedio 2 o 3 y en esa segunda o tercera opción hay un lugar muy grande para Paramount+, estamos apuntando a esa posición", reveló.
"Para nosotros terminar en los próximos tres años siendo la segunda o tercera opción dentro de América Latina va a ser un éxito", agregó.
