LOS ANGELES, CA (October 17, 2018) – Baruch Hashem! BOOM! Studios today unveiled a first look at RUGRATS: C IS FOR CHANUKAH #1, an oversized one-shot available in comic shops on-sale November 14th from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert writing duo of Daniel Kibblesmith (Quantum & Woody) & Cullen Crawford and artist Kate Sherron (The Amazing World of Gumball)!
It’s time for the Rugrats family vacation to the mountains, complete with the annual argument between Grandpa Lou and Boris arguing over which holiday is better: Chanukah or Christmas. Boris is determined to prove his holiday is the best and starts giving Tommy and the babies a history lesson on the Golem which sets imaginations ablaze. Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil now all feel that they have to save Chanukah from the Golem before it steals the holiday away for good!
A Golem is a man-like automaton shaped from clay and given life by the mystical name of the Jewish God. The 16th Century Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel is said to have created one in Prague.

RUGRATS: C IS FOR CHANUKAH #1, featuring a cover by Chrystin Garland (Steven Universe), is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ award-winning KaBOOM! imprint, home to comics for middle grade and younger readers including licensed series such as Rocko’s Modern Life, Peanuts, and Garfield, along with original series like Mega Princess by Kelly Thompson and Brianne Drouhard, Bodie Troll by Jay Fosgitt, Ruinworld by Derek Laufman, and The Deep by Tom Taylor and James Brouwer.

This comic is a nice little surprise for Rugrats fans, especially in the wake of the news that the show is coming back as a new series and movie.

Kibblesmith and Crawford's tale is obviously different from the now-iconic Chanukah special that aired on Nickelodeon in December of 1996. It was a fun re-telling of the holiday's story, in which the Jews rose up against the Ancient Greeks, when the latter attempted to wipe out their customs and culture. It also involved Grandpa Boris' longtime feud with Shlomo, voiced by famous Yiddish theater star Fyvush Finkel. The special continues to be watched every year by Jews and non-Jews alike. The most famous line comes from Tommy Pickles (Elizabeth Daily) declares, "A Maccababy’s gotta do, what a Maccababy’s gotta do!"
The Maccabees were a group of Jewish guerilla warriors (led by Judah) that fought against the occupying Greeks.
