After six weeks of voting, Nickelodeon unveiled kids’ favourite athletes during a one-hour special that premiered on Nickelodeon and FOX SPORTS 503 on Monday 20th November 2017.
Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Sports Awards was hosted by Fox Sports presenter Tara Rushton and Australian Ninja Warrior Jack Wilson, with the pair revealing the winners of eleven uniquely unconventional categories as voted Australian and Kiwi kids.
Male and female athletes from a variety of sports took out the top honours in this slime-filled celebration of sports stars, including two honorary categories with Australian athletics champion Sally Pearson achieving the highest accolade, taking home the Absolute Legend award and Yamba-based young cricketer Marc Reichler-Stillhard winning the second honorary award, for Local Legend.
The Local Legend award recognises that the sporting spirit goes far beyond the field, Marc’s win celebrates his love of the game and demonstrates how his sporting passion has brought an entire community together. Marc, who has Down syndrome, has continuously broken down the barriers between sport and people living with a disability.
Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Sports 2017 also saw two professional netball stars take home coveted mohawked blimps: 21-year-old professional netball player Jamie-Lee Price was named the Next Big Thing, and kiwi legend Laura Langman received enough public votes to be named the Hands of Gold winner.

Popular youngster nets Nickelodeon award
LOCAL LEGEND: Yamba's Marc Reichler-Stillhard has been made an honorary local sporting champion at the Nickelodeon 2017 Kids Choice Sport Awards.
He is Yamba's junior sport hero and this weekend he became Australia's hero as popular children's TV channel Nickelodeon ruled Marc an honorary local legend at its 2017 Kids Choice Sports Awards.
Marc, who has Down syndrome, has continuously broken down the barriers between sport and people living with a disability.
Only two years ago he hit the winning runs in his Under 12 cricket grand final for Yamba Cricket Club, and has played basketball, soccer and footy.
He has united a community and Lower Clarence Cricket Association president Jon McEwen said the award was a proud moment for everyone involved in helping Marc achieve his sporting goals.
"I have known Marc for a few years now as he grew up playing against my son," McEwen said.
"It has been great to see him grow as a cricketer and get involved.
"Everyone cheers for Marc whenever he touches the ball and it has been great to see that community spirit.
"As an association we encourage everyone to come out and play cricket and we will accommodate them as best we can, just like we have with Marc.
"He is a great example for everyone to not let barriers get in the way of their sport or their happiness."
In a social media post, Marc's mum, Enid, thanked Nickelodeon for the honour and the chance to show the maturity and humility of the players around Marc.
"You have shown everyone what a great bunch of kids we have living in the Clarence Valley," she wrote.
"They have accepted Marc and included him so that he can live a great life doing the things he loves best, playing sport with his mates."

Nickelodeon award nomination proves Ellia Green is inspiring next generation athletes
ELLIA Green grew up with posters of US sprinter Carmelita Jeter plastered all over her room; now the Rugby Sevens star is a role model for the next generation in her own right.
The 24-year-old Olympic gold medalist was nominated in the ‘Need for Speed’ category at this year’s Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards and says she’s amazed by how many young girls have been inspired to play Sevens for Australia.
And while she can’t be sure if any of them have posters of her up their walls, she knows her story and her team’s achievements have been a source of inspiration.
After years of hard work and dedication, the Australian Women’s Sevens team won the gold medal at the Rio Olympics.
“It’s been really sweet when kids have told me they’ve done their school projects on me or our team,” she said.
“The Olympics has had a huge impact on young kids. We’re changing the perception of sport, especially rugby. The fact that girls want to play rugby more and more is awesome.”
But rugby wasn’t even on Green’s radar until she drove her cousin to a Sevens talent identification camp in Melbourne some five years ago. She was reluctantly encouraged to take part, and it was her talent that was immediately identified.
Up until then, her only dream was to follow in the footsteps of her icon - Jeter.
“She was the fastest woman in the world in her time,” Green said.
“I just admired her physique; I wanted to look exactly like her. I put up photos all over my wall of Carmelita and then I’d write up all the times and weights I wanted to achieve when I was in primary school and high school. I was really focused when I was growing up.”
But when the opportunity came to play Sevens, Green’s mother encouraged her to take a chance with it. It worked out rather well and Green thanks her adoptive mum every time she runs onto the field by writing “Yolanta” on her wrist before each game.
“It does my a lot for me. In Sevens, the intensity and speed of it, it just literally pushes your body to exhaustion,” Green said.
“So when I’m so tired I just remind myself she’s watching me all the time, so I have to push myself harder.”
As much as she loves rugby, Green doesn’t feel like her sprinting dream is over. In fact, the talented athlete is planning to return to the sport in the near future to fulfil her goal.
“I started running when I was a little kid; I had a big afro the size of a hedge tree,” she said.
“It was my dream to become one of the fastest female sprinters in the world.
“I’ll definitely return to it one day. I feel like with sprinting, it’s something that you can do forever - I’ll be doing it when I’m an old lady. But rugby is a short career, it’s so demanding on your body, while sprinting on the other hand is something I plan on doing in the future.”

Australian Ninja Warrior's Jack Wilson wants to win season two
Jack Wilson is ready to obliterate his competition in the next season of Australian Ninja Warrior.
Charming, funny, and immensely talented, it wasn’t hard to see why Australia fell in love with Jack Wilson when he competed in Australian Ninja Warrior earlier this year.
And now, Jack’s back, and gearing up for round two. But this time, he’s determined to take out the title of Australia’s first ever Ninja Warrior.
“I want to win it,” Jack tells TV WEEK in an exclusive chat.
“Actually, I’m going to win it. I’m in training for season two now.”
At just 23-years-old, the outspoken Queenslander has already achieved an enormous amount.
Having overcome drug and alcohol abuse and transformed his life, Jack is now on a mission to inspire others to do the same.
“I’m doing Public Relations [work] now,” Jack explains.
“I’ve been travelling to schools and colleges and speaking to kids, youths and even adults. Telling them about my experiences, and how I made it on to Ninja Warrior. I feel like I have a responsibility to tell my story to others.”
While he never expected a life in the spotlight, Jack admits that he has enjoyed his newfound fame.
“It’s actually really cool because I’m known for a great thing,” he says.
“People look up to me now. It feels great to be inspiring people.”
Jack has recently earned himself yet another accolade, with the athlete scoring a nomination in the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports Awards ‘sickest moves’ category, which premiered last night.
“This is a dream come true really. This is up there. This is history,” he said about being nominated.
Unfortunately he didn't take home the award - he was beat by BMX rider Caroline Buchanan.
