Zag Entertainment founder, CEO, and producer Jeremy Zag has announced the magical news in a post on his official Instagram profile page, @Jeremy_Zag, on Thursday that the second season of the popular animated series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir will debut on TV during May 2017!:
Zag did not specify which countries will show the series first in May.
The 3D CG Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir series debuted in South Korea last September, before premiering in the United States on Nickelodeon on December 6. The series is also running in France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, EMEA, Latin America, Italy, Brazil, Belgium, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Lithuania.
Combining action-packed adventure with superhero elements, Miraculous Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is a 3D, CGI-animated sitcom that follows two junior high students, Marinette and Adrien, who have the ability to transform into superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir, with the help of their Miraculous accessories & magical kwami, Tikki and Plagg! Together, they keep Paris safe from the evil Hawk Moth and his army of mind-controlling akuma. The storylines and adventures are rich with friends, family, fun, secret identity, transformation, villains, fashion, creativity and more, all within the spectacular backdrop of Paris. Season one features 26 30-minute episodes.
The series is a co-production between Zag, Method Animation, Toei Animation, and SamG, with the participation of TF1, Disney Channel EMEA, SK Broadband, and AB droits audiovisuels.
Zag Entertainment, Toei Animation, and Method Animation co-produced a 2D-animated promotional video for the project announcement before relaunching it as a CG-animated series. Zag and Toei Animation are co-producing a 2D-animated OVA for the series, though it will include Cat Noir's design from the 3D CG-animated series, not the older design used in the promotional video.
Zag revealed in November that seasons 2 and 3 are in progress, and Nickelodeon revealed in June that a total of 65 episodes (including the first 26-episode season) are planned so far. At the time, Nickelodeon said that the second season "is set to premiere in early summer 2017."
Miraculous Ladybug season two will feature a new Kwami, which could also mean a new superhero in the show. It has also been speculated that Marinette may visit Hong Kong in the second season.
Nickelodeon USA are currently airing brand-new episodes of Miraculous Ladybug Saturdays at 8:30am ET/PT.
Bandai recently released their line of Miraculous Ladybug action figures and role play toys at mass retail, and Shout! Factory are currently releasing DVDs of Miraculous Ladybug season one.
