Nickelodeon has appointed industry veteran Charly Valentine to the role of Senior Director of Live Action Production and Development for Nickelodeon International.
Based in London, Valentine will report to Nina Hahn, Nickelodeon Senior Vice President (SVP) of International Development and Production, and is responsible for the worldwide growth of the kidcaster's live-action pipeline.
Previously, Valentine has worked on series and events including Britain's Got Talent, Masterchef, The X Factor, Gogglebox, The Royal Television Society Awards, MTV UK show Geordie Shore, and more.
Commenting on the appointment, Hahn said: "We're thrilled to have such a connected and creative industry veteran join our team. Nickelodeon is committed to delivering fresh and innovative global live action content that will delight our young viewers across all platforms. I'm confident that Charly will be an asset in continuing to build our worldwide live action content pipeline."
Earlier this year, Nickelodeon's US flagship channel co-commissioned live-action series Ride with Canada's YTV. Nickelodeon has also greenlit a brand-new project from Dutch production company Blooming Media that will yield two new series: An English-language, globally commissioned production titled The Ludwigs, and De Ludwigs, a Dutch-language production commissioned by Nickelodeon Netherlands. De Ludwigs premiered on Nickelodeon Netherlands (Nederland) and Nickelodeon Belgium (België; Flanders) on Monday 9th May 2016 and airs Mondays to Thursdays at 19.20 uur. Previous international efforts include the popular House of Anubis.
In other Viacom International news, VIMN has partnered with global leisure park operator Parques Reunidos and UK-based shopping center developer intu to create a Nickelodeon-themed indoor family entertainment center at intu's London-based Lakeside center. Set to open in 2018, the new 50,000-square-foot center will feature Nickelodeon-themed rooms for birthday parties and family gatherings, interactive adventure zones, character meet-and-greets and a retail space.
A Nickelodeon-branded family entertainment center for Spain was previously announced in March when VIMN began its relationship with Parques Reunidos to develop branded family centers across Europe. The Spanish location is expected to open in Murcia next year.
