Nick launches comedy shorts initiative
Nickelodeon is launching an animated shorts initiative that the US cablenet hopes will boost its toon comedy output.
The scheme will see independent producers creating 10x1′ shorts encompassing all animation styles that could then be formatted into long-form series for the cable channel or its website, Nick.com.
The shorts will be created at Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, California, the unit behind Nick hits such as The Fairly OddParents, SpongeBob SquarePants and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness.
“The new shorts programme gives us the opportunity to tap into comedy talent from many different sources,” said Nick and MTV Networks Kids and Family Group president of animation Brown Johnson.
