Roy Edmonds, the digital director at Nickelodeon who developed the first dedicated Spongebob Squarepants mobile app and website, is leaving the broadcaster after almost four years.
Edmonds is leaving to go traveling and the kids channel has kicked off a hunt for a replacement.
He joined Nickelodeon in May 2008 taking responsibility for the Nick and Nick Jr websites. During his time traffic increased 350% according to Nickelodeon stats.
Edmonds was responsible for launching Nickelodeon’s first iPhone app for key property Spongebob Squarepants, a 59p iSponge app featuring a game and classic clips.
He was also behind Squarepants' bespoke site the "Year of the Sponge" in 2009 as well as an augmented reality Spongebob Superfan 3D game which promoted the series via a series of hidden online cards which reacted to user's webcams.
