Nick Jr. UK Show "Peppa Pig" Wins Two 2011 British Academy Children's Awards

According to the official 2011 British Academy Children's Awards Winners webpage on the official British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) website, the popular Nick Jr. UK and Ireland show "Peppa Pig" won the 2011 British Academy Children's Awards award for best 'Pre-School Animation' at the 2011 British Academy Children's Awards ceremony which took place on Sunday 27 November 2011 at the London Hilton on Park Lane, UK. The voice actress Harley Bird, who provides the voice the "Peppa Pig" character "Peppa", also won a 2011 BAFTA Children's Award in the 'Performer' category.

Unfortunately, Nickelodeon UK didn't fare quite so well in the other 2011 British Academy Children's Awards category's Nick UK were nominated in. The NickToons UK and Ireland show "Grizzly Tales For Gruesome Kids" lost out to Cartoon Network UK's "The Amazing World Of Gumball" in the 'Animation' category, Nick Jr UK lost out to CBeebies in the 'Channel of the Year' category, the Nickelodeon live-action show "House Of Anubis" lost to CBBC's "Just William" in the 'Drama' category, the Nick Jr. UK and Ireland interstitial series "I ♥ Art [I Love Art/I Heart Art]" lost to Ragdoll/CBeebies' "Dipdap", the official Nickelodeon UK and Ireland website, Nick.co.uk, lost out to the official "Bin Weevils" website, Binweevils.com, which is a 3D virtual world created specifically for children and used to be a a 50/50 joint venture between Prism Entertainment and Nickelodeon U.K., and the hit Nickelodeon show "Victorious" won second place in the best 'TV' show category, losing out on first place to the Disney Channel show "Good Luck Charlie".

Boulder Media's 'Gumball' Wins BAFTA

Dublin based animation company Boulder Media has picked up an award at the Children’s BAFTAs, which took place last night, for writing and animation on its co-production ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’.

‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ combines 2D and 3D animation in a live-action setting, and follows the misadventures of 12-year old Gumball and his family in the town of Elmore. Featuring a stellar cast of characters, Gumball’s school friends include a tyrannosaurus rex, a cheerleading peanut, and a banana. The series received its international debut in May and is the first full-length animated series to emerge from Cartoon Network Development Studio Europe.

Boulder Media were part of the team who won the Award, along with Ben Bocquelet, Mic Graves & Joanna Beresford of Cartoon Network Europe in association with Dandelion Studios & Studio Soi /Cartoon Network UK. Other nominations in this category included major names such as Nick Toon’s ‘Grizzly Tales’, CBBC’s ‘Muddle Earth’ and ‘Pet Squad’.

Boulder’s work, which has also produced shows like Cartoon Network US ‘Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends’, Nickelodeon’s ‘El Tigre’ and BBC’s ‘Funky Fables’, was also recognised by the Award for Writing. The writing team for ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ were James Lamont & Jon Foster of Cartoon Network Europe, in association with Dandelion Studios, Boulder Media & Studio Soi/Cartoon Network UK.

Boulder’s Creative director, Robert Cullen, said, “We’re thrilled with this recognition of the fantastic work done by our team. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the creative and artistic challenge working on this international production. As a Dublin-based company, we’re extremely proud of ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ and to be working on a global stage, with more multi-national projects in the pipeline.”

Also up for an award on the night were Brownbag and Silvergate's 'Octonauts' for CBeebies in the pre-school animation category but lost out to Nick Jnr's 'Peppa Pig'.
